NY Premiere of DUBLIN BY LAMPLIGHT Set for 59E59, 9/8-10/2

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) welcomes Inis Nua Theatre Company (Philadelphia, PA) with the New York premiere of DUBLIN BY LAMPLIGHT, written by Michael West and directed by Tom Reing. DUBLIN BY LAMPLIGHT begins performances on Thursday, September 8 for a limited engagement through Sunday, October 2. Press opening is Wednesday, September 14 at 7:15 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:15 PM; Friday - Saturday at 8:15 PM; and Sunday at 3:15 PM. Amidst the filth and fury of Dublin 1904, the theatrical event of the century is about to explode. Will the "Irish National Theatre of Ireland" seize its chance for glory? Fading stars, rebels, whores and romantics create a brilliant mix of fact and fiction, poetry and politics. The BBC enthused, "beg, borrow or steal a ticket, but don't miss this play!"

Director Tom Reing uses the same highly stylized performance method used by Ireland's Corn Exchange, the original producers of DUBLIN BY LAMPLIGHT. Combining Commedia dell'Arte and Storytellers Theatre, this provocative performance style immerses the audience in another world that is fantastical and grotesque yet beautiful.

The cast includes Megan Bellwoar, Mike Dees, Jared Michael Delaney, Michael Doherty, Jered McLenigan and Sarah Van Auken.

The design team includes Meghan Jones (set), Terry Smith (lights) and Maggie Baker (costumes). The original music is devised, composed and performed live by John Lionarons.

Michael West (playwright) has written Dublin By Lamplight (2004), Everyday (2006), Freefall (2010) and Man of Valour (2011) with Corn Exchange. Other plays include Foley, performed by Andrew Bennett; Lolita, a co-production with Corn Exchange and the Abbey; and The Seagull. He has translated or adapted many texts, including The Marriage of Figaro (Abbey); The Canterville Ghost for the English National Ballet; Jean-Pierre Siméon's Stabat Mater Furiosa, performed in Avignon this year; and an acclaimed version of Death and the Ploughman, which has been directed by Christian Schiaretti of the TNP in Lyon, and Anne Bogart for Siti Company in the USA. He is currently writing an opera for Jürgen Simpson.

Tom Reing (director) has made a career directing Irish theater in Philadelphia. He has directed five American premieres and seven Philadelphia premieres of Irish and UK shows. Reing previously directed in New York Trad by Mark Doherty in the 2009 1st Irish Festival. He has worked for The Abbey Theatre in Education in Dublin and Rainbow Arts in Belfast. He teaches Arts and Learning at Temple University.
