Midtown International Theatre Festival Extends Deadline for Script Submissions

By:

The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) has extended the deadline for script submissions for its tenth season from February 6 to February 20, 2009. The season runs from July 13 - August 2, 2009.

The Festival accepts submissions in all genres - any sort of stage play, musical or otherwise, new or classic, mainstream or specifically focused on an ethnic or cultural niche. To be eligible, each show must have a producer and production team attached to the project.

"This is the most important theatre festival in New York City because new shows won't get lost in an ocean of 249 other shows. The MITF has no hidden costs - this festival offers the most competitive package of any festival in the area. And we have a higher ratio of paid staff than anyone else to help producers make the most of their experiences, from casting to marketing to press," said John Chatterton said, Executive Producer of the MITF.

Mr. Chatterton created the MITF in 2000, a Midtown alternative to other theatre festivals, as a way to present the finest off-off Broadway talent in convenience, comfort, and safety. Last year, the Festival added two 99-seat theatres and inaugurated the Commercial Division for upwardly mobile shows with commercial ambitions. All theatres are located near the MITF offices at 347 W. 36th Street (home of Mr. Chatterton's Where Eagles Dare rehearsal studios and theatre). The MITF's artistic emphasis is on the script itself and therefore the Festival requests minimal production values.

Application forms for the Tenth Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival are available online at www.midtownfestival.org. Completed applications, scripts, production materials and a non-refundable reading fee of $30 must be mailed to: The Midtown International Theatre Festival, 347 W. 36th Street, 13th Floor, New York, New York 10018. All submissions must be postmarked by February 20, 2009 (deadline extended) for consideration for the 2009 Festival.

Further information about MITF can be found in the "Festival Manual" under How To Apply at www.midtownfestival.org.
