Gay Vietnam War Drama at The Theater at the 14th Street Y

Michael Boyd's SOLDIERS AND OTHER LIVING THINGS Co-Presented by The Theater at the 14th Street Y and Andy Gordanier, running September 27 - October 7, 2018 in a limited engagement at The Theater at the 14th Street Y, 334 East 14th Street.

SOLDIERS AND OTHER LIVING THINGS addresses the issue of homosexuality and the military during the pre-Don't Ask Don't Tell era of the Vietnam war. Facing conflicts on the battlefield as well as at home, it's the story of two soldiers struggling to find self-acceptance in a world just beginning to tolerate same-sex orientation. One injured during the evacuation of Saigon, and the other suffering from post-traumatic stress, they eventually find themselves in a Veteran's Hospital where, through a series of encounters, they find the courage to confront the intensity of the feelings they share for each other.

The cast includes Alec Bandzes, Collin Howard, Sam Turlington, Zack Rickert, and Tyler Campbell

The design team includes Andy Gordanier (Scenic & Sound Design), Kia Rogers (Lighting Design), Karen B. Goldstein (Costume Design), and Joe Ricci (Dramaturg).

Michael Boyd (playwright/director) assisted James Rado (author of HAIR) on his musical AMERICAN SOLDIER at NYC's Theater for the New City, directed European Tours of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and WEST SIDE STORY, and staged Regional productions of 42nd STREET and AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' among others. He served as a Writer/Director for Walt Disney World in Orlando FL, co-authored and directed the National Tour of SWEET SONGS OF THE SOUL starring Tony Award winner Melba Moore, and conceived/wrote/staged holiday concerts for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Darlene Love at Lincoln Center and Harlem's famed Apollo Theater. His other works for the stage includes ALONE IN THE RAIN (a play about legendary actor, James Dean), and the upcoming HERE TO RECRUIT YOU (a play with music about gay political icon, Harvey Milk).
