Mike Birbiglia's My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, (www.GirlfriendsBoyfriend.com) a new comedy written by and starring Mike Birbiglia, will play The Barrow Street Theater, (27 Barrow Street) beginning March 18th with the official opening scheduled for March 31st, it was announced today by producer Live Nation.
In Mike Birbiglia's My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, Mike shares a lifetime of romantic blunders and miscues that most adults would spend a lifetime trying to forget. On this painfully honest journey, Mike struggles to find reason in an area where it may be impossible to find--love.
Directed by Seth Barrish (Sleepwalk With Me, The Tricky Part, Old Wicked Songs), Mike Birbiglia's My Girlfriend's Boyfriend will have set design by Beowulf Boritt (Sleepwalk With Me, Rock of Ages).
Mike Birbiglia's My Boyfriend's Girlfriend marks Mike Birbiglia's return to the New York stage after his acclaimed off-Broadway engagement in Sleepwalk With Me, for which he was nominated for the Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle Awards and was the recipient of a Nightlife Award for his performance. The play was the basis for Mike's New York Times Best Selling memoir Sleepwalk With Me (Simon and Schuster, 2010) and a 2010 National Comedy tour.
"After Sleepwalk With Me, I wasn't sure I'd do another play like it. But in developing some pieces for This American Life and touring the last two years, I developed a show that I am really proud of. I performed My Girlfriend's Boyfriend in Montreal, Sydney, San Francisco, and now I'm thrilled to be bringing it to New York. It's the most cynically optimistic piece that I could write about love. It's a love letter to love. And I hope people love it. Or at least "like" like it."
