Theater for the New City presents Andrea J. Fulton's one-act comedic drama Roof-Top Joy, directed by Ward Nixon for a three-weekend run, April 13-30.

The play premiered in 2015 as part of Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival, and was subsequently excerpted at the Theater's February 2016 Love n' Courage annual fundraiser and later in their 2016 Lower East Side Festival. The resounding success of the performances inspired TNC founder Crystal Field to invite the show for the upcoming engagement.

The action centers around the couple Wittiswood and Jah-niece. As they take up residence in a new luxury high rise condo in downtown Brooklyn, we see if the past can collide with the present to jeopardize the future. Might such a collision result in a joyful noise, or could all hell break loose and destroy their little slice of heaven in this drama that challenges our concepts of social norms, privilege and stereotypes balanced against homelessness and the American Dream.

Andrea J. Fulton's career as a playwright began with her impressive One Drop, which has received dozens of performances in college, theater, community center, church and courtyard settings. Fulton received a 2014 AUDELCO nomination for her Ugly is a Hard Pill, which was nominated for four other awards and won for Best Choreography. A native of Chicago, Andrea was recognized early on as creative, and at eight years old began writing poetry, songs, speeches and most anything asked of her. A graduate of Northwestern University, Andrea is a member of the Drama Guild, ASCAP, and is founder of the Fulton Arts Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting the performing arts aspirations of adults pursuing the arts later in life.
