Unlimited Stages will present the world premiere of Go Down, Moses, a new play written by Dana Leslie Goldstein and directed by Brandon M. Weber, running May 13 through May 31, 2026 and will celebrate its opening night on Sunday, May 17 at 7 PM at A.R.T./New York Theatres (Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre).

Inspired by a true story, Go Down, Moses is set on a college campus in 1985 and follows ethics professor Philip Hoffman and newly appointed Dean of Students Albert Becker—two men bound by a shared history in the Civil Rights Movement—now navigating a new generation of activism. When a student from the South Bronx invites a controversial speaker to campus, long-standing tensions erupt, and questions of free speech, institutional responsibility, and systemic inequity come sharply into focus.

Though set nearly four decades ago, Go Down, Moses speaks directly to the urgent debates shaping today’s campuses and communities—who gets a platform, how institutions respond to extremism, and what safety, inclusion, and accountability truly mean.

The cast includes Terence Archie (Broadway: Company, Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime), Philip Hoffman (Broadway: Fiddler On the Roof, Into the Woods, Falsettos), with Shania Adams, Lucas Bernhauer, Kaa’lah Bynes (Regional: A Raisin in the Sun), Maddy Mackarey (Regional: Beautiful), Yarin Neuhaus (Off-Broadway: Small Mouth Sounds), Jeremiah Packer (Off-Broadway: Ceremonies in Dark Old Men), Vanessa Pliskow (Regional: Winner), Donovan Price (Theatre: Coriolanus), Patrick Saint Ange (Tour: Hero), Celina Mylene Santana (Film: New Boo), and Renee Shohet (Regional: Come From Away, Waitress).

The creative team includes associate director Alexa Powell, scenic designer Diamond Robinson, Costume Designer CK Zaki, and lighting designer Zayn Noel, projection designer Steve Lucin, original music by John Bronston, with stage manager Kai Stanton, assistant stage manager Jason "Fletcher Christian" Laws, and dramaturg Lucy Tuchmann. The marketing team includes Brianna Sun, Heather Kirschner, and Rosella Nguyễn. This play is produced by Judith Manocherian (Broadway: Once On This Island, Real Women Have Curves, Swept Away).

Go Down, Moses has already garnered significant recognition, including a nomination for the prestigious Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and selection as the winner of the 2025 Waterworks New Play Festival, among numerous other honors.
