CHICK FLICK THE MUSICAL Begins Run At Westside Theatre

Call your BFFs - it's time to fill your glass with friendship, fun, and flicks. Chick Flick the Musical (ChickFlickTheMusical.com), a new musical comedy with book, music and lyrics by Suzy Conn (Suffra-Jets; The Mercer Girls), choreography by Sarah O'Gleby (Mythic - West End; Broadway: Disney's Frozen; Kennedy Center Honors), and directed by David Ruttura (Associate Director - Network; Associate Director - School of Rock) will play The Westside Theatre (407 W. 43rd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues), it was announced today by Producer Broadway Venture Capital Fund and Executive Producers Richard Frankel and Joe Watson. Performances of Chick Flick the Musical begin February 21 with opening night set for March 7.

Chick Flick the Musical invites you to join Karen, Dawn, Sheila, and Meg as they get together to unwind, watch a chick flick, and play their favorite drinking game. As the festivities proceed and the tequila flows, can the power of meet cutes and makeover montages save the day as relationship drama and career crises bubble to the surface? Celebrating the healing power of sisterhood, laughter, and life lessons from the movies we know and love, Chick Flick the Musical is ultimately about life's greatest love story: friendship. Casting for Chick Flick the Musical will be announced in the coming weeks.

Chick Flick the Musical features scenic design by Jason Sherwood (RENT live on Fox; The View Upstairs; The Spice Girls World Tour), lighting design by Jeff Croiter (Tony Award Winner - Peter and the Starcatcher; Falsettos), costume design by Suzy Benzinger (Movin' Out; A Chorus Line), and sound design by Peter Fitzgerald (American Son; John Lithgow: Stories By Heart). Matt Castle (Once Upon A Mattress; Found: A New Musical) is the musical director, co-orchestrator and co-arranger, and Frank Galgano (Into the Woods; A Dog Story) is co-orchestrator and co-arranger.

"I wrote Chick Flick the Musical as a love letter to chick flicks because they celebrate female friendship and hope," said Suzy Conn. "Personally, I need happy endings to get through my days and there's nothing like a good chick flick to deliver that hit of endorphins. I was excited to explore the iconic conventions of this emotion-based genre because they have created a shared language between women. Using that shared language enabled me to convey a message of empowerment in a fun and entertaining way. Delivering this story of friendship as a piece of live musical theatre is the perfect way to honor this shared sisterhood - seeing Chick Flick the Musical with an audience of fellow chick flick lovers will be a unique bonding experience. As Cher says in Mamma Mia Here We Go Again - 'That's the best kind of party, little girl.'"
