The New York Musical Theatre Festival, LC Productions and Julie Miller present the world debut of ZAPATA! The Musical, at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, Pershing Square Signature Center.

ZAPATA! The Musical tells the story of Emiliano Zapata, hero of the Mexican Revolution, who appears in the 21st century to show an idealistic member of "Occupy Wall Street" the proper way to fight for the 99%. ZAPATA! is a magnificent love story set against the cinematic backdrop of revolution. Not since CARMEN or LES MISERABLES has there been a story so moving, so appropriate for all times. Protest rock meets mariachi, a musical combination never seen before on the Great White Way.

Directing ZAPATA! The Musical is renowned stage and film director Elizabeth Lucas, who recently created her own new narrative for Adam Guettel’s MYTHS AND HYMNS at Prospect Theater in New York City. Elizabeth most recently staged the new musical BIGFOOT AND OTHER LOST SOULS, by Mark Hollman (URINETOWN) and Adrien Royce for Perseverance Theater in Juneau, Alaska.
Luis Salgado of IN THE HEIGHTS will provide choreography and musical staging. "I am very excited about this project as is my first time working for the NYMF Festival and with Director Elizabeth Lucas. I respect her work very much and we have put together a great cast" said Luis Salgado to Broadway World. "It's very inspiring to see the interest of telling more Latino oriented stories in a musical theater form and I am more than honor to be able to bring the background and awareness of it's heritage and folklore to the NYC stages" added Luis who is an Adviser of the new VIVA BROADWAY initiative, a new audience development partnership with the Hispanic community, to help bridge the world of Broadway with Latino audiences around the country.
Orchestrations and arrangements are by Jesse Vargas, recognized nationally as music director/arranger for pop singer Clay Aiken.

The cast is led by Natalie Toro, who played Eponine in Broadway's LES MISERABLES, Andrew Call from the Broadway cast of AMERICAN IDIOT, Enrique Acevedo of the upcoming GIANT by Michael John La Chiusa, and Maria Eberline, who played CARMEN for Franco Dragone and Elfaba in Broadway's WICKED.

ZAPATA! The Musical is written by Peter and Ana Edwards, a writing team from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

ZAPATA! The Musical will begin performances on July 24th and continue through July 29th. Tickets are $25 at www.nymf.org, or by calling 212-352-3101. Advance ticket reservations are strongly recommended. The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, Pershing Square Signature Center is located at 480 W. 42nd Street, New York City.
