Opera South and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra:
Norway's leading opera star of all time, Kirsten Flagstad, lived in London for more than 30 years. She will forever be a large and important source of inspiration for young Norwegian singers. The relation to the Kristiansand and southern Norway to form a natural backdrop for presenting young singers who follow in her footsteps, whether they are Wagnersangere or have chosen to develop other vocal expressions. Opera Gala in Kirsten Flagstads footsteps was, with great success, presented to the public for the first time in the fall of 2010. The purpose is to invite a handful of young Norwegian singers with an already active or potential international career to introduce themselves.
Despite the fact that there is still a lot of Southerners who have vivid and fond memories of a great singer and a warm and attentive with the human being, it is our opinion that London has not been conscious of its responsibility to honor Norway's greatest songs of all time. Our hope is that the Opera Gala in Kirsten Flagstads footsteps can contribute to an increased awareness of the region's population of Kirsten Flagstads importance to the development of opera in Norway. We also hope the concert will be of inspiration for the Norwegian singers in their further career.
