Wolf Trap Dedicates Wing of the Foundation’s Celebrated Center for Education in Honor of Terre Jones, Departing President and CEO
Amidst friends, family, colleagues and staff, Terre Jones-Wolf Trap's longtime President and CEO-today enjoyed a very extraordinary occasion with the unveiling of the Terrence D. Jones Family Education Hall. In a final celebratory action before Jones's retirement, the Wolf Trap family recognized its visionary leader for his myriad signature achievements, including the creation of the national Center for Education, which houses the newly named Education Hall. Wolf Trap Foundation Board of Directors Chairman John C. Lee, IV, also announced two other actions taken by the Board: Jones will receive the title of President Emeritus effective January 1, 2013, and Wolf Trap has created an endowment fund in his honor to support the Foundation's continued commissioning of new works, a practice that exemplifies Jones' long-held commitment to the creation of new work.
The opening of the Center for Education at Wolf Trap, a national resource for artists, teachers, children, and the community, is one of Jones' greatest achievements during his tenure. The Education Hall, a large, multi-purpose space, is designed for a variety of uses, including full-scale rehearsals of the Wolf Trap Opera Company, and a wide array of education activities including field trips for thousands of children each year as part of the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, professional development workshops for teachers, Wolf Trap Classes for the community, meetings, and training sessions for Wolf Trap Teaching Artists from across the country.
"The creation of the Center for Education is one of Terre's signature achievements in his distinguished career," said John C. Lee IV, Chairman, Wolf Trap Foundation Board of Directors. "The space has truly connected Wolf Trap to the community, and the community to Wolf Trap, just as Terre has done over his seventeen years at the helm. To name the Education Hall in Terre's honor is the perfect way for the Wolf Trap family and the surrounding community who engage with the space to honor his legacy."
Creating new works as a centerpiece of Wolf Trap's artistic mission is one of the exceptional hallmarks of Terre's tenure at Wolf Trap, with more than 70 new pieces in diverse genres commissioned by Wolf Trap while in office. New artistic initiatives help introduce audiences to the best creative minds of our time while contributing substantively to the American performing arts repertoire.
Jones' retirement is effective December 31, 2012. His 40-plus-year career in the performing arts--combined with his business acumen--has increased the Foundation's operational effectiveness and financial strength to thrive and grow under his leadership. Arvind Manocha will take office January 2nd as Wolf Trap's new President and CEO as Jones retires to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
