Molly Ringwald to Perform as Part of the 2013 U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series at CenterStage, 2/14-17
Richmond CenterStage is excited welcome actress/author/singer Molly Ringwald as she performs as part of CenterStage's 2012-13 U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series: A Celebration of the Great American Song Book.
Ms. Ringwald will sing selections from her forthcoming album of jazz standards entitled "Except ... Sometimes," in CenterStage's Rhythm Hall beginning on Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14. The show will run through a special Sunday brunch matinee on February 17.
"Except...Sometimes" was produced by Peter Smith and features Clayton Cameron on drums, Allen Mezquida on alto saxophone, Peter Smith on piano and Trevor Ware on bass.
An actress of both stage and screen, Ringwald was cast as Miranda in Paul Mazursky's film Tempest at the age of thirteen, a performance that earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She went on to star in numerous films, including the now-iconic John Hughes movies Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink.
Ringwald's career spans four decades and also includes foreign films such as Jean-Charles Tacchella's Tous Les Jours Dimanche and Toni Marshal's Enfants de Salaud, numerous television projects including the Emmy-nominaTed Allison Gertz Story, and an extensive theater resume that includes playing the legendary "Sally Bowles" in the Broadway production of Cabaret and the role Salome alongside Al Pacino.
Currently, Ringwald can be seen starring in the breakout hit The Secret Life of the American Teenager on ABC Family, and she is also on the road promoting her new novel, the national bestseller, When It Happens to You.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Molly Ringwald to Richmond for our special Valentine's Weekend cabaret performances," said Richard M. Parison, Jr., Executive Director of Richmond CenterStage. It is an honor to present her as part of our U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret Series."
In addition to Ms. Ringwald's special engagement, the 2012-13 U.S. Trust Life is a Cabaret! Series will culminate in April with a weekend of performances featuring cabaret legend Amanda McBroom. Ringwald will perform at CenterStage's Rhythm Hall from February 14-16 at 7 p.m., with a special 12:30 p.m. Sunday brunch matinee on February 17.
