The Old Firehouse Teen Center (OFTC) is sponsoring an alternative to the usual "become a couch potato" solution to Fairfax County Public School's Teacher Work Days. On Monday, Jan. 30, 5th- through 9th-grade students can enjoy a full day of skiing at Massanutten Resort with OFTC staff members. Trip cost includes bus transportation, ski rental and lift tickets. The Alden, Professional Artist Series- The Capitol Steps on Friday, Jan. 13 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $45 and $35 for district residents

Always fresh, never frozen, organic, locally grown political comedy, The Capitol Steps come back to the Alden for their annual, two-performance showing. One-hundred percent RDA of "laugh your you-know-what off," the group began in 1981, when a group of Senate staffers set out to satirize the very institutions and individuals that employed them. Friday evening's performance will be followed by a free reception for ticket holders sponsored by the Friends of the McLean Community Center. For more information visit http://www.mcleancenter.org/alden/guestartist.asp.

9th Annual McLean Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration - Sunday, Jan. 15 from 3-5 p.m. Tickets are general admission for Adults $5; Children $3 (age 10 and under).

Guest speaker Dr. Ed Jackson, executive architect of the Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc., will share his insider's view of the months and weeks leading up to the dedication of the memorial and report on current fundraising efforts. Rev. Todd A. Brown, pastor of First Baptist Church of Chesterbrook in McLean, will be the master of ceremonies. The celebration also includes performances by The Richmond Boys Choir and Taratibu, an African dance troupe. For more information visit http://www.mcleancenter.org/special-events/mlk.asp.

The Alden, Professional Series- Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo on Wed. & Thurs., Jan. 18 & 19 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 and $35 for district residents.

With impeccable timing, madcap sensibility and disciplined elegance, the male dancers "en travesti" interpret classical and modern ballets combining a loving knowledge of dance with a wicked comedic sensibility. For more information visit http://www.mcleancenter.org/alden/guestartist.asp.

Insider Knowledge Series- Ballerinas with Brawn tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. Free Admission.
