Firehouse Presents Eugene O'Neill's DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS
By: BWW News Desk
Firehouse Theatre proudly presents Noble prize winning American playwright Eugene O'Neill's powerful tale of love, lust, and loathing -- DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS -- from October 20 through November 5, 2017.
O'Neill's 1924 masterpiece is rooted in the tragic Greek myth Phaedra, transplanted to a remote New England farm. When Ephraim Cabot comes home with a new, young wife his three sons plot to maintain their hold on him and their inheritance, leading to malice, madness, and murder. Firehouse's Producing Artistic Director Joel Bassin has included DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS as part of the company's Season of Possibilities because "O'Neill is a great poet of the theatre and his DESIRE is a powerful epic about competing aspirations." "I'm so thrilled Firehouse has chosen to produce this haunting drama," says director Josh Chenard. "O'Neill's text is so dramatic and so beautiful, finding that balance between theatricality and the truth of human experience is a wonderful challenge...and I certainly have an incredible group of actors and a top-notch creative team to explore with."Chandler Hubbard - Simeon Cabot
