Original Musical.
What do you get when you cross traditional Sicilians, Neapolitans and Jewish businessmen after you toss in three generations, pepper it with laughter, tears and set it to sweet ballads?
You get: âThey Call It Gravy; WE Call It Sauce!â
When first-generation Sicilian-American Rosa falls in love with Jewish Aaron and becomes pregnant out of wedlock, her father disowns her.
During the next twenty years, they raise their daughter, Barbara, without knowledge of her maternal heritage. But when Barbara seeks out her grandparents via a slick detective, a beautiful new relationship is born, and she, along with her boyfriend, plot to reunite her mother with her parents.
However, theyâll all have to weather a new twist; Barbaraâs boyfriend is a Neapolitan-American. The traditions of Sicilians and Neapolitans canât help but clash. Is it âgravyâ or âsauceâ and why do Neapolitans insist on cutting off vowels at the end of words? And what the hell is âBru-shettaâ?
âThey Call It Gravy; WE Call It Sauce!â is a musical dramedy following one family over twenty years as they struggle to stay together and keep their heritage alive amid laughs and tears, forgiveness and family cohesionâ¦all in the city they love.
