The Performing Arts School at bergenPAC ‘s Black Box Theater Series located at 38 N Van Brunt Street in Englewood NJ is holding auditions November 10th, 2015 at 7:30PM for the Great American Whoopee. Auditions are for ages 14 and up. For more information:

This musical comedy is a work-in-progress based on the book Mushroom: The Story of the A-Bomb Kid written by John Aristotle Phillips and David Michaelis. It tells the true story of John Phillips and how he came to design an atomic bomb as a Princeton undergrad in the 1970s.
John Aristotle Philips wanted his life to be memorable, meaningful, and worthwhile. While searching for his purpose, however, he alienates everyone around him and nearly fails out of Princeton. Inspired by a teacher, he decides that the only way to graduate is to design an atomic bomb using only his Physic textbook and his own ingenuity. What he actually created was a media frenzy that turned his life upside down. Based on actual events, John's story is the story of the Great American Whoopee.
We see the story unfold from fun beginnings to its terrifying end. The musical focuses on the people in his life before, during, and after the world took notice. Of course, no musical would be complete without heartbreak, tiger mascots, men in drag doing a kick-line, and scary government spies. Interested? Us too.
About The Performing Arts School at bergenPAC
The Education program at bergenPAC features a series of classes, school residencies, workshops, live performances, student productions and ensemble groups in the performing arts for students ages 2 1/2 months to 21 years old.
The program provides students with unique and “hands-on” arts training by industry professionals that allow them to gain real world experience and enhance academic achievement through the arts. bergenPAC’s arts education initiatives occur on-site at our new Performing Arts School building at 1 Depot Square, Englewood, NJ or off-site at other schools. The school reaches more than 30,000 students annually.
The Performing Arts School offers basic and professional level performing arts classes and ensemble groups and productions in
theater,
dance, and
music for students of all ages and abilities including special needs. The school also offers
beyond bergenPAC, a school Partnership Program with school districts throughout the area.
