THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) - Freeport Players

AUDITIONS: The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged)

June 27 & 28, 6:30-8:30pm
Freeport High School music room (in FPAC wing), 30 Holbrook St

Freeport Players is holding open auditions for The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Roles for 3 adults ready to throw themselves into energetic, physical comedy with a touch of improv. Both men and women will be considered for roles. Directed by Elizabeth Guffey.

In this hilarious comedy by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield, three madcap actors in tights weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare's comedies, histories, and tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter. From well known comedies and tragedies to the more obscure problem plays and even the sonnets -- this is a great introduction for those new to the Bard and a great review for those familiar with the canon. Actors will be employing improv, physical comedy and traditional acting skills in this enemble piece.

Auditioners will be asked to cold-read sides from the script and may be asked to improvise scenes.

Actors are encouraged to e-mail Elizabeth at
info@fcponline.org so we will know to expect you.

Audition Advice

Demystifying Callbacks

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to prepare a monologue for auditions?
No.

What is the rehearsal schedule?
The schedule will be tailored to the availability of the cast and director and the needs of the play. Rehearsals will begin first week in August, but a first readthrough will likely happen in July. We typically rehearse three times a week until the week leading up to the performance and every night from the Sunday before we open through opening night. Typically rehearsals are two evenings and one weekend session and are 2-3 hours long.

Do I have to attend both audition sessions?
No. Attend just one audition session. You may be asked to attend a callback session after we see everyone in the open auditions.

What if I can't attend either session?
If you would like to audition but cannot attend either of the audition sessions, please notify us at
info@fcponline.org so we can let you know if additional audition opportunities are made available.

When are callbacks?
TBD. If you are needed at callbacks, you will be notified either at the first auditions or in the following week. [See
Demystifying Callbacks for more about callbacks.]

Do I need to bring a head shot and resume?
No. However, if you have them do bring them. It will save you time completing the audition form. [See
Audition Form]

What happens at auditions?
When you arrive, a greeter will have paperwork for you to fill out that will tell the directors a little about your skills and experience with theater. [Save time by completing the Audition Form in advance and bringing it with you to auditions.] We'll see auditioners somewhat in the order we receive their completed paperwork. We may see actors either indivually or in pairs or small groups. In the audition you will be asked to cold read a bit of dialog from the script for the director. These excerpts will be provided when you arrive for you to review before you meet with the director. You may also be asked to improvise a scene.
