SALMON-A-RAMA: THE SKETCH COMEDY PUPPET MUSICAL THAT YOUR CHILDREN WON'T UNDERSTAND - Over Our Head Players at the Sixth Street Theatre
Hi friends! The Over Our Head Players will be holding open auditions for the new, original production, “Salmon-A-Rama: The Sketch Comedy Puppet Musical That Your Children Won’t Understand”.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at 7:00pm at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth Street, Racine, WI, 53403. Auditions will consist of informal reading, singing, and playing. Bringing a prepared monologue is not required. Vocal auditions will consist of 16-24 measures of a song (any song that you like) that shows off your range and personality. No accompanist will be provided so you can sign a cappella or bring in your own track.
The cast will consist of 6-8 musically inclined actors and comedians working also as puppeteers. Actors can be any age and from any background. No puppet experience is required. Training will be included in the rehearsal process. A cast that varies in age and background is always encouraged and preferred.
Our musical takes place in Racine, Wisconsin in 1975. North Beach just might have a problem with a rogue man-eating salmon! Will we ever go back into the water again??
Some of the characters that the puppeteers will be portraying include:
Gil Gilson – Local legend and hater of salmon! He has a dark past – and plenty of baggage.
Wilma Finson – She’s rough. She’s tough, and her life is dedicated to nothing but sport fishing! Current president of the Racine chapter of “Salmon R Limited”.
Gertie Olson – She’s a local Kringle lady who just invented deep fried cheese and wants to launch it at this year’s fishing contest.
Mayor Hansen-Jensen-Petersen-Christensen – He’s basically the mayor from Jaws. Period.
These characters, and many more, are looking for puppeteers to bring them to life!
Rehearsals will begin in late February / early March. Performances will run from Friday, May 8th through Sunday, May 31st. Shows run Thursdays at 7:00pm, Fridays at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 5:00 and 8:00pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm.
If there are any questions, or if you have a conflict with the audition date, please reach out to Managing Artistic Director Rich Smith at filthyrich@wi.rr.com or 262-632-6802.
Volunteers are also needed in all technical capacities, including stage management, props, costumes, set construction, lights, sound, and running crew. Those interested in any of those positions can inquire at volunteers@overourheadplayers.org. If you wish to work the front of house as an usher or concessionist, please contact lobby@overourheadplayers.org.
If you would like to help with the creation of the puppets, we need folks to help build the cast of Salmon-A-Rama. We will show you what to do and provide all materials. We need people who like to craft, people who sew, people who paint, and maybe even Bedazzle! If you are one of those folks, please contact us at volunteers@overourheadplayers.org.
