PERISPHERE 2027 SEASON AUDITIONS - Perisphere Theater Non Equity Auditions

Perisphere is seeking to cast the following roles for our 2027 season. All roles are paid a stipend of $1,200. Currently we are unable to consider AEA performers and we do not provide housing. Rehearsals and performances will take place at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, MD.

TO BE CONSIDERED: Submit your headshot, resume, and a link to your self-tape by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, September 25th. Submit at the Google Form linked on our website: https://perispheretheater.com/2027-season-auditions/

For the self-tapes, please tape yourself performing a 60-90 second contemporary monologue.
Please slate at the top of your video with your name and the name of the play and character you are presenting.
Please use a solid, neutral color backdrop.
Please record yourself at eye level using a tight frame that goes from your chest to just over the top of your head and if using a phone, please make sure to record using a horizontal orientation.
Only actors aged 18+ should submit.
Your video should either be loaded as “unlisted” on YouTube or on a private Vimeo channel.
If you need to password protect the video, please use “Perisphere2027.”
Please do not share links via Google Drive or Dropbox.

In-person callbacks will be held in October 2026. We regret that we cannot respond to all submissions.

THE TURN OF THE SCREW adapted by Jeffery Hatcher from Henry James

Company Meeting: There will be a meeting of the entire artistic and production company before rehearsals start at a mutually beneficial time for all company members sometime during the first week of November.
1st rehearsal: November 30, 2026
Tech, Dress, Preview: January 14-21, 2026*
Opening: January 22, 2026
Closing: February 6, 2026
Rehearsals will take place weekends and evenings no more than 5 days a week. There will be no rehearsal December 21-January 3. There will be ten performances between January 22-February 2nd.

*Please note that tech for Turn of the Screw falls over the Martin Luther King Day long weekend. Monday January 18 (Martin Luther King Day) will be a scheduled day off.

BREAKDOWN:
Note: this production has been granted a special request by Concord Theatricals to increase the cast size from 2 to 3 actors. The following roles are broken down slightly differently from what’s in the play script.

All actors will need to do a period specific Victorian British Accent.

THE MAN - male presenting, 30’s-50’s, any ethnicity, the spirit of Henry James who will narrate specific moments of the play and serve a theatrical role providing stage effects to the play.

THE GOVERNESS - female presenting, 20’s, any ethnicity, the young and attractive protagonist of the story.

THE WOMAN- female presenting, 30’s or older, any ethnicity, will play all the other roles in the play (the Uncle, Mrs. Grose, Miles, and Flora).

CATHERINE GIVINGS - female presenting, 20’s, any ethnicity

SABRINA DALDRY - female presenting, early 30’s, any ethnicity; must play the piano

ANNIE - female presenting, late 30’s, any ethnicity

LEO IRVING - male presenting, 20’s-30’s, any ethnicity, MUST BE ABLE TO DO A PERIOD SPECIFIC BRITISH ACCENT

ELIZABETH - female presenting, early 30’s, African-American

MR. DALDRY - male presenting, 40’s-50’s, any ethnicity

CONTENT AND INTIMACY DISCLOSURES

THE TURN OF THE SCREW contains the following charged material: Implied child abuse and exploitation, themes of domestic and emotional violence, kissing, and the onstage death of a child.

IN THE NEXT ROOM, OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY contains the following charged material: Sexism, sex/sexuality, kissing, intimate touch, medical procedures, bigotry/violence/hateful language based on cultural or religious identity, racism, classism. There are also overt references to the loss of a child, pregnancy, and childbirth. The play contains simulations of onstage sex and sexual assistance, masturbation, and breast feeding. The play contains undressing and costume changes onstage as well as moments of partial nudity (full male body exposure from behind and female front of chest exposure). An Intimacy Choreographer has been hired for the project to help establish boundaries amongst the artists and craft the storytelling with sensitivity and responsibility.
