Holding Auditions for

DREAMGIRLS

April 2nd, 2015


Theatre Raleigh will hold auditions for the 2015 Hot Summer Nights production of Dreamgirls on April 2nd, 2015. Dreamgirls will run at Kennedy Theatre July 8th-26th, 2015.

Dreamgirls it is the musical based on the show business aspirations and successes of acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, and James Brown.The story follows a young female singing trio from Chicago who get their big break at an amateur competition and begin singing backup vocals for James Thunder Early. However, things begin to spin out of control when their agent, Curtis Taylor, Jr., makes Deena and not Effie, the star of what will become known as The Dreams.

Summary of Roles:

Effie White (Lead) African American, 20-30, belt, large and in charge lead singer of The Dreamettes

Deena Jones (Lead) African American, 20-30, mezzo, backup singer for The Dreamettes, takes Effie’s place as lead singer of The Dreams

Lorrell Robinson (Lead) African American, 20-30, soprano, backup singer of The Dreamettes and The Dreams, romantically involved with Thunder Early

Curtis Taylor, Jr. (Lead) African American, 30-40, tenor, smooth talking, charismatic, manipulative manager of The Dreams

James “Thunder” Early (Lead) African American, 30-40, tenor, flashy star for whom The Dreams sing backup

C.C. White African American, 20-30, Effie’s brother, writes the music for The Dreamettes

Michelle Morris African American, 20-30, belt, sings backup for The Dreams when Effie leaves the group

Ensemble – males and females to play various roles.

All those auditioning must be available for both production and rehearsal dates (which run two or three weeks prior to the production’s opening). No conflicts allowed.

WHERE:

Theatre Raleigh Studios: 3027 Barrow Drive Raleigh, NC 27616 (off of Old Wake Forest Road)

WHEN:

April 2nd from 3pm - 7pm.

WHAT TO PREPARE:

Please prepare 32 bars from a song of your choice. An accompanist will be provided but please bring your own sheet music. Be prepared for a cold reading.
