Southern Rep to Stage MOLD World Premiere, 3/20-4/14

Southern Rep Theatre continues its 26th Season Mainstage Series with the World Premiere of MOLD by John Biguenet at The Contemporary Arts Center directed by Mark Routhier starring Trey Burvant, Kerry Cahill, Randy Maggiore, and Carol Sutton. In MOLD, John Biguenet, Louisiana Writer of the Year 2012, completes his award-winning Rising Water Trilogy including RISING WATER and SHOTGUN about the flooding of New Orleans and its aftermath. Set the summer after the levee collapse MOLD depicts a young husband forced to choose between his wife and the city he loves. The production runs between March 20 and April 14.

MOLD is the third installment of the Rising Water Trilogy which is being produced simultaneously across the state with Swine Palace of Baton Rouge producing RISING WATER, March 6-17, and Acting Unlimited Inc. of Lafayette producing SHOTGUN, March 9-17.

JOHN BIGUENET has published seven books, including Oyster, a novel, and The Torturer's Apprentice: Stories, released in the U.S. by Ecco/HarperCollins and widely translated. His work has received an O. Henry Award for short fiction and a Harper's Magazine Writing Award among other distinctions, and his poems, stories, plays, and essays have been reprinted or cited in The Best American Mystery Stories, Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards, The Best American Short Stories, Best Music Writing, Contemporary Poetry in America, Katrina on Stage, and various other anthologies. His work has appeared in such magazines as Granta, Esquire, North American Review, Oxford American, Playboy, Storie (Rome), Story, and Zoetrope. Named its first guest columnist by The New York Times, Biguenet chronicled in both columns and videos his return to New Orleans after its catastrophic flooding and the efforts to rebuild the city.

Biguenet's radio play WUNDMALE, which premiered on Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Germany's largest radio network, was rebroadcast by Österreichischer Rundfunk, the Austrian national radio and television network. Two of his stories have been featured in Selected Shorts at Symphony Space on Broadway, the Long Wharf Theatre, and elsewhere. THE VULGAR SOUL won the 2004 Southern New Plays Festival and was a featured production in 2005 at Southern Rep Theatre; he and the play were profiled in American Theatre magazine. RISING WATER was the winner of the 2006 National New Play Network Commission Award, a 2006 National Showcase of New Plays selection, and a 2007 recipient of an Access to Artistic Excellence development and production grant from the National Endowment for the Arts as well as the 2007 Big Easy Theatre Award for Best Original Play; it has had numerous productions around the country. SHOTGUN, the second play in his Rising Water cycle, premiered in 2009 at Southern Rep Theatre, with subsequent productions at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater and Florida Studio Theatre, both in 2010; it won a 2009 National New Play Network Continued Life of New Plays Fund Award and was a 2009 recipient of an Access to Artistic Excellence development and production grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. SHOTGUN is published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc. His ongoing trilogy of plays about the flooding of New Orleans has been the subject of articles in American Theatre, The American Scholar, and elsewhere. He was awarded a Marquette Fellowship for the writing of NIGHT TRAIN, his new play, which he developed on a Studio Attachment at The National Theatre in London and which premiered at New Jersey Rep Theatre in 2011. In 2008, Biguenet was named Theatre Person of the Year at the Big Easy Theatre Awards, the region's major professional theater awards. He received the Louisiana Writer Award in 2012.

Having served twice as president of the American Literary Translators Association and as writer-in-residence at various universities, he is currently the Robert Hunter Distinguished University Professor at Loyola University in New Orleans.

TREY BURVANT earned his Masters in Fine Arts in Acting from The Moscow Art Theatre/American Repertory Theatre's Advanced Theatre Training Program at Harvard University. A veteran actor for over 20 years, he has performed in New York and regionally at such theatres as The American Repertory Theatre, Guthrie Theatre, Boston Theatreworks, Santa Fe Shakespeare, Speakeasy Stage, Public Theatre of Maine, Tulane Shakespeare, and Southern Repertory Theatre. He has appeared in over a dozen regional and national commercials; his selected film and television credits include: Guiding Light, Final Destination IV, Bad Lieutenant, I Love You Phillip Morris, The Lucky One, The Campaign, Treme, Drop Dead Diva & GI Joe: Retaliation.

KERRY CAHILL has studied at the British American Drama Academy, Queen's University in Belfast, Loyola University New Orleans, and Second City Chicago. She has worked with Young Audiences, Voices for Children, and the Princeton Review. Kerry writes for the current 3X3 production series with Southern Repertory Theatre and is working on her first full length play. In New Orleans, Kerry has been seen in ZOMBIETOWN, ORANGE FLOWER WATER, LYSISTRATA, and WOLVES. She also pursues film and TV and will be appearing in Paul Walker's upcoming film Hours as well as The Devil's Knot with Reese Witherspoon.

RANDY MAGGIORE last appeared with Southern Rep as Mr. Marx in INTIMATE APPAREL (2004) and as Henri in the first production of OKRA (2005). Other roles include: Larry in CLOSER with Jonathan Mares Productions at the Always Lounge, Baptista in TAMING OF THE SHREW with the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, as Simon in, I HAVE BEFORE ME A REMARKABLE DOCUMENT GIVEN TO ME BY A YOUNG LADY FROM RWANDA at Theatre in the Square in Marietta, GA., and most recently with Michael Martin and Richard Mayer in VERBATIM VERBOTEN: THE INVASION OF PRIVACY REVIEW at the Shadowbox Theatre. Randy is also a teacher and director with the Grace King High School Theatre Program and very exited to be working once again with Southern Rep and such a great cast and crew!

Carol Sutton is a native New Orleanian who has appeared on stage for 45 years. She began her career with Dashiki Project Theatre under the guidance of the legendary Dr.Ted Gillian. Miss Sutton has also appeared in over 70 films, including The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, Runaway Jury, Ray, 21 Jump Street and The Help. She is the mother of two and grandmother of five very high maintenance girls and has the good sense to know that without GOD, none of this would be possible.

AARON VILES is the Deputy Director of the Gulf Restoration Network, an 18 year old environmental advocacy group exclusively focused on the health of the Gulf of Mexico. Aaron is a graduate of Green Corps, and began his work as an environmental organizer as a student at the University of Washington. Aaron was a founding advisor of the Gulf Coast Fund for Community Renewal and Ecological Health, served on the environmental transition team of Governor Bobby Jindal, and a fellow of the Loyola Institute for Environmental Communications. In his work for the Gulf he has testified in front of Congress and appeared on CNN, the PBS NewsHour, NBC News, and has been quoted in the New York Times, the Washington Post and many other media outlets.
