Sayreville War Memorial High School’s Theatre Society officially presents its Spring Musical Production, “Mamma Mia!” The production’s director, Laura DiStaulo, had a vision to produce a musical that was uplifting and fun considering the recent circumstances of society coming out of a global pandemic.
“I knew that my cast could handle the uniquely difficult structure of a jukebox musical. Generally, these types of musicals have storylines that are complex, but once executed correctly, it lights up the auditorium. And I wholeheartedly believe that my cast has the potential to bring the story to life, and I hope that many people have the opportunity to watch them do so,” DiStaulo said.
“Mamma Mia” is a widely popular jukebox musical romantic comedy that follows the story of a young bride-to-be as she attempts to find her real father, while she navigates her way through various relationships. The musical is set on a small Greek Island, and is accompanied by hit songs of the popular 1970s band, ABBA. Inspired by the rollercoaster of emotions and colorful scenery, DiStaulo aimed to create a cast just as dazzling as ABBA’s discography.
Therefore, DiStaulo casted sophomore Marissa Rowley, junior Marissa Fernandez, sophomore Haley Lopez, and senior Samantha Shaw as Sophie Sheridan, Ali, Lisa, and Donna Sheridan respectively. Along with these cast members are Grace Herrick, Hailey Block, Robert Shaw, Jonathan D. Magaw Jr., Rithvik Ganipineni, Ryan Yuhas, Anthony McLaughlin, and Christopher McDowell. Rajneet Saini, Hope Gutzlaff, Nicholas SantaMaria, Benjamin Hornbeck, Stephanie Castellitto, Megan Corby, Amanda Mozdzen, Paloma Hidalgo, Julia Tarallo, Carly Hoffman, Kymberly Perkins, Dani Yannuzzi, and Rohan John are participating in the play as they are attempting to make the most out of their senior year of high school. DiStualo believes that these outstanding actors and actresses possess the ability to illuminate the stage, and she says she will do anything it takes to allow these students to express themselves and their passion for theatre on the Sayreville War Memorial High School stage.
The Sayreville War Memorial High School Theatre Business, Light, Sound, Stage, and Set Design Crews work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure the production runs smoothly on Opening Night. The production represented more than just a musical for the “Mamma Mia” cast and crew, as it fostered a sense of unity among the Sayreville War Memorial High School staff and student body as they came together to admire a long awaited production.
