Chagutok, written by Vince Gatton, is part of Vivid Stage's annual Meet the Artist new play reading series, presented on Wednesdays in May at the Summit Community Center. Four Americans each make a solitary pilgrimage to a remote, unpopulated island off the Alaskan coast, hoping to witness an obscure atmospheric phenomenon known as the Chagutok Lights, which occurs only once every seventeen years. They expect to be camping alone, but find themselves stuck with one another — until a dead body appears, and it's just the first. These four loners must work together to solve the mysteries of the dead, the Lights, and each other. Following the reading, the audience will have the opportunity to discuss the project with the playwright, director, and actors.
