Wesla Whitfield Comes to NJPAC, 2/11
Wesla Whitfield – a jazzy songstress with a repertoire that moves freely from Cole Porter to John Lennon – will celebrate Valentine's Day early at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center with a collection of romantic standards on Saturday, February 11th at 7 and 9:30 p.m.
The Chase Room performance, which also features the Mike Greensill Trio, is part of NJPAC's cabaret series and is made possible by BNY Mellon Wealth Management, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Discover Jersey Arts and The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation.
Tickets range from $50-$70 and are available by telephone at 1-888-466-5722, at the NJPAC Box Office at One Center Street in downtown Newark, or at www.njpac.org.
About the Artist: Born in California, Whitfield knew that she would be a singer from an early age. But life tossed her an unexpected challenge when, at 29, she was caught in a random shooting while walking home from rehearsal. Paralyzed from the waist down, she forged on with a highly-successful career that would include concerts with the San Francisco Symphony, major recordings, appearances on Prairie Home Companion and the Marian McPartland PBS "Piano Jazz" series, performances at the White House and even a one-woman autobiographical show at the Kaufman Theater on New York's 42nd Street.
