True Story to Hit the Stage in No Peeking Theatre's SICK LOVE

"Ben has a natural talent of using the most basic and yet most visceral points of human existence. With that, he creates a context that is both completely unique and incredibly easy to relate to, no matter how specifically situational his content may be." - Amanda Levie, founder of No Peeking Theatre

Sick Love is the true story of Benedicto Figueroa; a single father struggling to overcome addiction and the torturous darkness of mental illness. He loves his daughter, he's found the love of his life, but the battle to stay sober sends him spiraling into a depression that threatens to consume him.

Told through a series of poems and monologues the show illustrates the vulnerability and desperation we face when trying to overcome our vices. It's the dark and emotionally raw journey of a man frantically fighting for his life and love, in war against his demons.

Setting out to create innovative and diverse platforms for both production crew and audience, Executive Director Amanda Levie decided to develop a new production format that could give the audience a first hand experience of the story, its world, and its characters. Generally No Peeking Shows immerse audiences into the world of the show, equipping the audience with a blindfold and a multi-sensory experience.

Benedicto Figueroa has been captain of Slam Teams, been awarded the title of Poet Laureate in Union City, NJ, and has submitted and several works that were produced by Amanda in previous show "In Lak'Ech", a play that describes the myriad definitions of the Latin American Experience. This is Benedicto's debut as a playwright for an entire spoken-word script.
