Single tickets for McCarter Theatre's 2011-2012 fall season will go on sale to the general public on Monday, August 1st for events from September through December.

To open McCarter's 2011-2012 Theater Season, Tony Award winner John Doyle (Broadway's Sweeney Todd and Company) will bring his signature style of engaging a company of actor-musicians to bring to life the extraordinary music of Rodgers and Hart in Ten Cents A Dance from September 9 through October 9. The season will continue with the world premiere of Phaedra Backwards by Marina Carr, one of Ireland's premier contemporary playwrights, directed by McCarter Theatre Artistic Director Emily Mann. And, McCarter's much-loved holiday favorite, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol will return December 4 through December 24.

Until now, only subscribers have had access to tickets for the not-to-be-missed event of the season: GATZ, a landmark marathon word-for-word dramatization of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel The Great Gatsby, performed by the original cast of New York's Elevator Repair Service. Its initial engagement last fall at The Public Theater sold out before it ever opened and became the hottest ticket and the most acclaimed single production of the 2010 New York theater season. GATZ comes to McCarter's Berlind Theatre for four performances only, December 15 through 18. The New York Times calls it "The most remarkable achievement in theater not only of 2010 but also of this decade."

Among one-of-a-kind world-class performers on the Signature Series expected to sell briskly will be  four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald on Thursday, October 6; Princeton's own Mary Chapin Carpenter on Saturday, October 8, No Reservations: An Evening with Anthony Bourdain on Monday, October 24; Bela Fleck and the Original Flecktones with Howard Levy on Wednesday, November 9; Yamato: Japanese Taiko Drum Ensemble on Thursday, November 10; and the triumphant return of Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro on Monday, December 19;

Other highlights of the fall season include SF Jazz Collective performing the music of Stevie Wonder on Wednesday, October 5; Emmy and Tony Award winner Tyne Daly in her celebrated cabaret act on Saturday, October 22; a joint recital by violinist Christian Tetzlaff and pianist Lars Vogt on Tuesday, October 25; legendary pianist Alfred Brendel brings insight and wit to his lecture, Does Classical Music Have to Be Entirely Serious? on Tuesday, November 1; One-Man Star Wars Trilogy with Charles Ross on Tuesday, November 8; and folk icon Joan Baez on Friday, November 11.
