The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will hold an exciting and unusual food and wine event featuring noted author, food historian and television personality Francine Segan on Sunday, December 6 at the Park Avenue Club, 184 Park Avenue in Florham Park.

Entitled "Dinner with Socrates: An Epicurean Excursion to Ancient Greece," the evening begins with Ms. Segan's engaging discourse on the feasts, dining customs and epicurean myths of Ancient Greece, and the philosopher's writings on food and wine. This tasting event will feature Greek and Mediterranean delicacies and a specially chosen collection of fine wines. The plates, inspired by recipes from Ancient Greece and Rome, will be prepared by The Park Avenue Club's Executive Chef Arnold Kruck with consultation from Ms. Segan. The Los Angeles Times said, "Author Francine Segan turns a neat trick. She takes cursory recipes from ancient Greece and Rome and makes them vibrant and cookable. Segan's recipes are excellent: Simple, sophisticated and delicious."

Francine Segan is the James Beard nominated author of five cookbooks including "Shakespeare's Kitchen" and "The Philosopher's Kitchen," which inspired the "Dinner With Socrates" event. She has appeared on numerous television programs including NBC's The Today Show, CBS's Early Show, and the Food Network's Dinner: Impossible. She is a frequent guest on Martha Stewart Living Radio and NPR and she has addressed audiences at The Smithsonian Museum, 92nd Street Y and The Museum of Natural History.

"Dinner with Socrates" will be held on Sunday, December 6 at 4:00 pm at the Park Avenue Club, 185 Park Avenue, Florham Park. The cost is $115 per person. For more information, or to make a reservation, call 973-236-2998. Information can also be found at www.ShakespeareNJ.org. All proceeds from the event benefit The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's artistic and education programs.

Throughout the reception, patrons will have the opportunity to bid on one exclusive silent auction package - Ms. Segan will host a party of eight for dinner at her home in Manhattan, based on a theme from one of her four cookbooks. Ms. Segan's extensive experience, wonderful humor, and incomparable hospitality will assure the lucky winner an evening to remember.
