TTC Presents Cabaret Workshop Showcase, 10/23

By: Oct. 18, 2010

The Theater Company (TTC) isn't just a company that produces shows; we are also a company that likes to foster new talent and help performers bolster their abilities. Because of our belief in showcasing talent, TTC has offered a Cabaret Workshop & Showcase, which will be presenting on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 8pm.

"Part of our mission is 'to combine professionals, community members, students and children in productions so everyone can learn from each other and benefit from each other's experiences,'" notes Producing Artistic Director David Zimmerman." "And that's why we feel providing a workshop like this is so important," adds Assistant Artistic Director Margaret Leone, "so we can teach what we know to the novice performer and help them get noticed." Both Zimmerman and Leone are the
instructors of this workshop and have amassed over 35 years of experience in cabaret performance.

The goal of the workshop is to teach performers how to present a song for any singing event and deliver their best performance. Emphasis has been placed on phrasing, vocal style, stage presence, song selection and interpretation, while focusing on the emotions built into lyrics
to help the singer put their "personal stamp" on the song. Having participated in the workshop, attendees are then given the stage for a one night only performance to show what they have learned and get immediate feedback from a live audience.

The performers for the first workshop of the 2010-2011 seasons are Abigail Grace, Justin Luciano, David Maglione, Katelyn Spinosa, and Emily Voorhees alongside seasoned veteran Judith Moss. Songs to be performed include standards like the Etta James classic "At Last," and songs from shows like CHESS, BARE and title of show.
