Stage Set for Fugard's 'Master' at Luna Stage, January 30 - March 2
By: Robert Diamond
Luna Stage continues its mainstage season with a revival work by South African playwright Athol Fugard - produced in commemoration of South Africa's 20th anniversary of Freedom Day. "Master Harold"...and the boys opens Thursday, Jan. 30 and runs through Sunday, March 2.
On a stormy afternoon, Hal tries to do his homework in his mother's Port Elizabeth tea room as the family's two black workers, Sam and Willy, scrub the floors, ballroom dance to the jukebox and share hopes about better times. Ranked in the National Theatre's "NT2000 One Hundred Plays of the Century," "Master Harold"...and the boys extends the story of a young boy's coming of age in the culture of apartheid.
