Stage Set for Fugard's 'Master' at Luna Stage, January 30 - March 2

Luna Stage continues its mainstage season with a revival work by South African playwright Athol Fugard - produced in commemoration of South Africa's 20th anniversary of Freedom Day. "Master Harold"...and the boys opens Thursday, Jan. 30 and runs through Sunday, March 2.

On a stormy afternoon, Hal tries to do his homework in his mother's Port Elizabeth tea room as the family's two black workers, Sam and Willy, scrub the floors, ballroom dance to the jukebox and share hopes about better times. Ranked in the National Theatre's "NT2000 One Hundred Plays of the Century," "Master Harold"...and the boys extends the story of a young boy's coming of age in the culture of apartheid.

The production, directed by Reginald L. Douglas of Brooklyn, N.Y., has scheduled shows on consecutive days: Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Talkbacks with Douglas, one of New York Theater Workshop's 2050 Fellows, follow performances on Sunday, Feb. 2 and Thursday, Feb. 13.

Ticket prices range from $25 to $35 with discounts offered to students at $10. Season passes are also available. Show tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online at or by calling (973) 395-5551.
