Spring Doo Wop/Rock & Roll Celebration Comes To Keswick Theater 5/16

Come celebrate Spring with The Spring Doo Wop/Rock & Roll Celebration at the Keswick Theater on Saturday, May 16th featuring five of the best musical acts of 1950's and 1960's.

On the bill are:

Jimmy Beaumont & The Skyliners, fronted by original member Jimmy Beaumont. The Skyliners best known for their 1959 hit "Since I Don't Have You." They also hit the Top 40 with "This I Swear" and "Pennies From Heaven." Other classics include "It Happened Today", "Close Your Eyes", "Comes Love" and "Where Have They Gone";

Herb Cox and The Cleftones, originally from Queens, New York, came together at Jamaica High School in 1955. The group is best known for "Little Girl Of Mine", "Heart And Soul" and "For Sentimental Reasons".

Eugene Pitt & The Jive Five formed in Brooklyn, New York in the late 1950s and found success with "My True Story", which reached #3 on the pop chart. Other Jive Five hits include "What Time is It" and "I'm a Happy Man". Nickelodeon used the Jive Five to write and record some of its most memorable advertising jingles with the catch phrase "Nic-Nic-Nic", performed in a doo wop style.

The New Orleans Dynamo, Frankie Ford, sang his way to rock n' roll immortality in 1959 with the mega hit "Sea Cruise", which made the Top 20, but was the flip side to "Roberta", the single intended to be the hit from the record. His cover hit "You Talk Too Much" ironically outsold the original version.

Barbara Lewis, two-time Grammy Award Nominee and the vocalist behind "Hello Stranger," had a brief, brilliant career from 1962 to 1965. But from the time she walked out of a recording studio in 1970 until she resumed performing in 1993, the native of tiny Salem, Mich., did everything from running her own jewelry store to working security. Nobody knew that the woman working next to them had a song that made it to No. 3 on the pop charts in 1963. She also is known for the hit "Baby I'm Yours".
