SMILE & Disney's 101 DALMATIANS Up Next at Open Air Theatre
By: Tyler Peterson
A behind-the-scenes look at a 1985 beauty pageant is the humorous plot for the next production at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre when Smile the Musical makes its debut. Presented by the Alumni of Lambertville, N.J.'s Downtown Performing Arts Center, the musical comedy will be performed for one weekend only on Friday, August 14, Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16 at 7:30 pm.
Taking place over the course of one week during the summer of 1985, an innocent beauty contestant and her savvy roommate witness the treachery and favoritism that goes on behind the scenes of the Young American Miss beauty pageant taking place in Santa Rosa, California. With big hair, big makeup and evening gowns galore, Smile the Musical is based on the 1975 film and features melodies by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Howard Ashman. Both are known for their work on other musical theater hits such as Little Shop of Horrors, A Chorus Line and They're Playing Our Song. The Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre production of Smile the Musical will be performed on Friday, August 14, Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children (ages 12 and under) and $12 for seniors (ages 65 and older.) Tickets can always be purchased at the Open Air Theatre Box Office a half-hour prior to the performance. Group discounts are available.Videos
