Oscar D'León with Tony Vega and Los Hermanos Moreno Come to NJPAC, Today
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center present an evening of exuberant, romantic salsa with three of the music's hottest acts: Venezuelan bassist and vocalist Oscar D'León, Puerto Rican vocalist Tony Vega, and the NJ-based tropical band Los Hermanos Moreno on Saturday, September 22nd at 8 PM.
One of the most celebrated salsa musicians of his generation, Oscar D'León is known internationally for his solo work as well as his performances with the group, La Dimensión Latina. Often referred to as "The Lion of Salsa," D'León's exuberant repertoire draws on classic Cuban big band arrangements and compositions by other prominent Latin composers. His albums include the GRAMMY-nominated El Sonero Del Mundo, and 2003's acclaimed Infinito.
Charismatic, Puerto Rico-born vocalist Tony Vega has shared the stage with salsa royalty around the globe, including performances with Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri and Marc Anthony. Vega's romantic sound has also been featured on his own gold- and platinum-selling albums, including Yo me Quedo and Lo Mío es Amor. Formed in New Jersey in 1989, Los Hermanos Moreno has since scored big on the Latin charts with hits like "Sopa de Pichón" and "Quimbombo." Led by trombonist-vocalist Nelson Moreno, the ensemble combines a traditional, aggressive style of salsa with sensual lyrics and sophisticated orchestrations. The group's latest album, Una Miradita, features some of the heaviest salsa arrangements to come out of the metro area in years.New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), located in downtown Newark, N.J., has the most diverse programming and audience of any performing arts center in the country, and is the artistic, cultural, educational and civic center of New Jersey - where great performances and events enhance and transform lives every day.
