The New Jersey Repertory Company located at 179 Broadway in Long Branch is proud to present the New Jersey premiere of the delightful musical comedy, Cupid and Psyche, book and lyrics by Sean Hartley, music by Jihwan Kim, December 11, 2008 thru January 18, 2009.

"Love is like milking a centaur. It's a dangerous game," observes the befuddled Mercury in Cupid and Psyche, a fabulously funny retelling of the famous love story from Greek mythology. Set on a modernish Mount Olympus where gods participate in such daily activities as wet toga contests, fawn tossing, and centaur races, Cupid and Psyche is a comic tale of forbidden love, a coming-of-age story, much in the tradition of The Fantasticks.

Directed by Alan Souza (The Little Hours) with musical direction by Naomi Lee, and choreography by Ron De Jesus, Cupid and Psyche stars Liz Zazzi as "Venus" the goddess of beauty and a matriarch to be reckoned with. Earlier this season, Ms. Zazzi starred in NJ Rep's runaway hit comedy, Women Who Steal. In Cupid and Psyche she plays an aging diva, who is not at all happy with the fact that "Psyche", a mere mortal, is usurping her in the eyes of her subjects. Add to the mix that her curly haired son, "Cupid" the love god (Ryan Reid), is love-struck himself with the enchanting "Psyche" (Pheonix Vaughn), arrows are bound to fly.

Specially-priced preview performances are Thursday and Friday, December 11 and 12 at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
