New Jersey City University (NJCU) Center for the Arts, the creative umbrella for the University's performing, visual, film, and literary arts activities, announces its arts and cultural programming for February 2018.

Highlights for February include An Evening with Icon Judith Jamison -- dancer, choreographer and Artistic Director Emeritus of the renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater - as the culminating event of the University's Black History Month programming (February 28). The Black Maria Film Festival, an annual juried short film competition housed at NJCU, premieres the 2018 winning films at the Hoboken Historical Society (February 10).

Guest author Julija Sukys reads from and discusses her deeply personal memoir, Siberian Exile, which traces her family's history while shedding light on the horrors the Lithuanian Jews faced during World War II (February 22).

In NJCU's galleries, Joyce Yu-Jean Lee creates State of the DysUnion, a multi-media installation that gives a snapshot of current journalism, advertising, and the Internet in the Trump era of "alternative facts" and "fake news" (January 25 - March 1). Shoshanna Weinberger references her mixed-race identity with The Otherness of Strangefruit, a series of collages that pointedly distill cultural stereotypes around beauty, race, and gender (February 1 - March 15).

For the full Spring 2018 Calendar of Events for NJCU performing, visual, and literary arts, visit www.njcu.edu/arts. For additional information call 201-200-3426.

All of NJCU's performances and events in February are free, and reservations may be made in advance online. For group sales and reservations, please contact the box office directly: boxoffice@njcu.edu.
