Montclair State University Announces Benefit Production of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES
Montclair State University is getting ready for another year participating in the V-Day Campaign to raise funds and awareness to end violence against women and girls.
On March 5th and 6th, 2012, at 7:30pm, V-Day Montclair will present a two-night benefit reading of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play The Vagina Monologues at Memorial Auditorium.
The cast includes Briella Calafiore and Jessica Romano of Style Network’s Jerseylicious and Glam Fairy, Elaine Bromka (Uncle Buck, In the Family), Amy Warren (August: Osage County, Adding Machine), and returning Vagina Warrior SuzzAnne Douglas (How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Parent ‘Hood). The Vagina Monologues will be directed by Brandon Monokian and Allison Andresini, two Montclair State University alumni.
Tickets for these performances can be purchased by the general public for $15 and for $10 by Montclair State University students at www.vdaymontclair2012.eventbrite.com. Memorial Auditorum is located on the Montclair State University campus: 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey.
These performances are the culminating events of the V-Season at Montclair. Students and community members will be participating in functions in the coming months to promote awareness to stop violence against women and girls. All funds raised through the March performances will be donated to the women and girls of Haiti (via the V-Day organization), and The Women’s Rights Information Center of Englewood, New Jersey. The Women’s Rights Information Center was formed in an effort to inform and aid women in supporting themselves and their families. More information can be found at www.womensrights.org.
“The Vagina Monologues is a piece that proves why theatre is essential in our society,” says Brandon Monokian. “Not only does it entertain and emotionally move you, it incites discussion that can be the beginning of true change.”
Along with the reading the event will feature a dance piece by Dana Balsamo and live music by Lydia René. Montclair State visual artists will also have works on display prior to and following the performances.
