Michael Schnoering, FAIA, Joins Board Of NJ Theatre Alliance ImageNew Jersey Theatre Alliance ("The Alliance") announced that Michael Schnoering, FAIA, has joined its board of trustees. The Alliance is a service organization for the 31 non-profit, professional theatres in New Jersey, supporting them and the theatre-going public with a wide array of services and programs.

"We are very pleased that Michael has agreed to join the board," said John McEwen, Executive Director of the Alliance. "For ten years he has been serving on the board of directors of the Cultural Access Network Project, an accessibility initiative that we run in partnership with the NJ State Council on the Arts. We look forward to benefiting even more broadly from his strategic thinking and enthusiasm for the arts."

Schnoering is a Partner with Mills + Schnoering Architects, LLC, a full service architectural firm with broad experience in the planning and design of new buildings and historic preservation. He manages many of the firm's theatre, educational, and government projects. He has guided award-winning renovation projects in theaters on the national stage and has completed successful projects at a number of well-known historic downtown theaters. His work encompasses a wide variety of innovative new and adaptive-use designs involving public and private entertainment, lecture, education, and administrative spaces.

As a member of the Board of the League of Historic American Theatres (LHAT), Schnoering has shared his knowledge on accessibility issues and has advocated for a national model to increase access in all locations beyond the minimum code requirements. His passion for access in the arts has led to multiple speaking engagements at national LHAT conferences as well as regional training events for the Cultural Access Network.

Michael holds a bachelor of architecture degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), and is a Registered Architect in 15 states. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Alliance board and to be supporting New Jersey's dynamic and exciting professional theater community," said Schnoering. "I am particularly looking forward to helping the Alliance grow and develop their accessibility services and reach increasingly broad and diverse audiences."

Founded in 1981, New Jersey Theatre Alliance was the first statewide service organization for professional, not-for-profit theatre companies in the United States, and is a leader in developing model programs that unite, promote, strengthen, and cultivate professional theatre in New Jersey. Funding for New Jersey Theatre Alliance, a not-for-profit organization, is provided in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, as well as contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations including the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, Bank of America, The Shubert Foundation, and The Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation.
