After twenty years as artistic director, Luna Stage founder Jane Mandel has decided to step down to allow herself time to spend with family and to pursue creative endeavors.

Mandel will be succeeded by Cheryl Katz. Katz has served as the theatre's Director of Play Development for the past ten years and as Associate Artistic Director for the past two seasons. During her time at the theatre, Katz has directed the world premieres of The Man in Room 306 by Craig Alan Edwards, The Fastest Woman Alive by Karen Sunde, Mercy and the Firefly by Amy Hartman and most recently, Carnaval by Nikkole Salter. Katz has overseen the theatre's new play development programs that have generated over twenty world premieres including The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez,Honor and the River by Anton Dudley and The Dangers of Electric Lighting by Ben Clawson. Under Katz's artistic leadership, the theatre will continue Mandel's vision of a theatre that is inclusive and responsive. The theatre will continue to produce new work by emerging writers and revivals of classic and contemporary plays that illuminate the diverse perspectives of our world.

The 2013-2014 Luna Stage mainstage season will begin with The High Water Mark, the world premiere of a new comedy by Ben Clawson (The Dangers of Electric Lighting) about two estranged friends who share a night of wine and secrets as they navigate the road that lies ahead. The High Water Markwill run October 10th through November 10th. The season continues with a revival of Master Harold and the Boys, Athol Fugard's searing story of a young boy coming of age in the culture of apartheid. Master Harold and the Boys will run January 30th through March 2nd. The season closes with the New Jersey professional premiere of Oscar-Nominee José Rivera's powerful and poetic Marisol, an urban fantasy which urges society to recover our long-lost compassion for our fellow man and to save our world from the brink of destruction.
