Cameron Mackintosh's touring production of LES MISERABLES, which is currently making its way around the U.K., will begin a US tour early in 2011. The U.S. production, which is being developed by the Paper Mill Playhouse in conjunction with Cameron Mackintosh, will begin with an engagement at the Paper Mill, before embarking on a tour across the United States.

While casting for the American company continues and all of the stops on the tour have yet to be announced, some theatres which will host the tour have been revealed including the Hippodrome in Baltimore, The Ohio Theatre in Columbus, and the Fisher Theatre in Detroit.

This production of LES MISERABLES will be "cast entirely interracially," according to a casting notice. The US tour will launch on or around Jan. 4, 2011, after its run at the Paper Mill from Nov. 19-Dec. 19, 2010. Rehearsals will begin in early October.

The 25th Anniversary touring production premiered in Cardiff in December 2009. This new production features direction by Laurence Connor and James Powell and a new set design by Matt Kinley. Costumes are by Andreane Neofitou, with contributions from Christine Rowland, lighting is by Paule Constable and sound is by Mick Potter.

LES MISERABLES has played the Queen's Theatre in the West End now for twenty-four years - the longest running musical in West End history - having generated a profit of a cumulative £30 million. The show enjoyed a 16-year run on Broadway from 1987 - 2003, and was revived again in 2006. This is in addition to the countless number of tours and licensed productions throughout the world, cast albums, t-shirts etc. that have made the musical its own industry.

Seen by over 56 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 21 languages, "LES MISÉRABLES" is undisputedly one of the most popular musicals of all time, with new productions continually opening around the globe. There have been 34 cast recordings of "LES MISÉRABLES", including the multi-platinum London cast recording and the Grammy Award-winning Broadway cast and complete symphonic albums. The video of the 10th Anniversary Royal Albert Hall Gala Concert has sold millions of copies worldwide. There are over 2,000 productions of the LES MISERABLES School's Edition scheduled or being performed by over 100,000 school children in the UK, US and Australia, making it the most successful musical ever produced in schools.

Cameron Mackintosh's production of "LES MISÉRABLES" is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. It has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, adapted by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, with additional material by James Fenton.

This new production is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell and designed by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. Original costumes by Andreane Neofitou, additional costumes by Christine Rowland, lighting by Paule Constable and sound by Mick Potter.
