Jenny Bacon, Sheldon Best & More Set for Midtown Direct Rep's EVIL TIME Reading, 9/8
Midtown Direct Rep announces the cast for the previously announced reading of David Johnston's Evil Time as part of Midtown Direct Rep's play development series focused on new and innovative American theatre: Theatre in the Loft.
Evil Time by David Johnston (Candy & Dorothy) will be directed by Robert Ross Parker (Vampire Cowboys). The Cast is led by Midtown Direct Rep members, Jenny Bacon (My Name is Asher Lev), Janeece Freeman Clark (Urinetown), and Robert DuSold (Jekyll & Hyde), with special guests Sheldon Best (Person of Interest) and Chris Young (Romeo and Juliet).
Ray, a clean young Christian, arrives at King of Kings World Media Corp. (a nexus of power, media and political influence in the Christian right movement) to begin his internship. But all is not as it seems to be around the office: Dr. Billy has visions, Florence carries a gun, and before long Ray is having hot gay sex with a mysterious UPS carrier, and the two of them uncover a fiendish plot by religious conservatives to bring about the end of the world. Violence, religious extremism and black comedy all collide in this slapstick tragedy.
With perhaps more professional theater artists than any suburb of NYC, Maplewood/South Orange (NJ) is "where Broadway comes home to sleep." MDR, a theatre company created by and for these NJ-based artists, develops and presents relevant, world-class theatre for its community. www.midtowndirectrep.org.
Midtown Direct Rep company members include two- time Tony Winner, Norbert Leo Butz, Tony Nominee, Christiane Noll, and "Law & Order; SVU" regular, Joel de la Fuente, among others. The Company is managed by Co-Artistic Directors Sandy Rustin and Jeremy Dobrish, Managing Director Jeffrey Shubart, and Producing Director Evan Fleischer.
