The 2016 Season at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre continues with a musical that's always a family favorite. Scheduled for three weekends, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat begins on Friday, August 5 and runs through Sunday, August 21. Performances are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 pm.

The first full-length musical by the legendary theatrical team of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, his devoted father, his jealous brothers and his incredible series of adventures. Originally only 20 minutes long, a 19-year-old Andrew Lloyd Webber first created the musical for a British school choir in 1968. He asked his friend Tim Rice to write the lyrics and the musical would later be expanded to the version that audiences enjoy today.

With a cast of over 60 adults and children, this production includes many faces familiar to Open Air audiences. Reprising the role of the Narrator is Open Air favorite Jill Palena. Audiences have seen Jill in a variety of roles over the past 7 years. Earlier this season she portrayed Jo March in Little Women the Musical and was previously seen as as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical, Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie and Anita in West Side Story. Tim Chastain will play Judah and just finished a run as Sebastian the Crab in Disney's The Little Mermaid. Other actors heading up the cast include Patrick Mertz as Joseph, JarEd Williams as Jacob and Karl Weigand as Pharaoh.

Filled with youthful energy, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat combines a wide variety of musical styles - everything from country to calypso to rock 'n roll - in a series of memorable musical numbers. Described as a high-voltage extravaganza, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat includes such classic songs as the contemplative "Any Dream Will Do," the Caribbean infused "Benjamin Calypso," the dazzling "Jacob and Sons/Joseph's Coat" the rockabilly sensation "Song of the King (Seven Fat Cows)" and the unforgettable "Go, Go, Go Joseph."

The Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be performed on Friday, August 5, Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7 at 7:30. The musical comedy returns for two more weekends of performances on August 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children (ages 12 and under). Tickets can always be purchased at the Open Air Theatre Box Office a half-hour prior to the performance. Group discounts are available.
