JERSEY BOYS Star John Lloyd Young to Perform at amfAR Bucks County Cabaret

By:

Tony Award winner John Lloyd Young, the original star of the hit Broadway show Jersey Boys, will perform at the sixth annual Bucks County Cabaret to benefit amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, on September 25.

Young will be accompanied by American Idol pianist, arranger, and associate musical director Michael Orland at the event in a restored barn in Pipersville, Pa. Also, for the first time, there will be a traditionAl Hunt-style breakfast the day of the performance at Cherryfields, an estate in Peapack, N.J.

"I've been working with AIDS charities since I was on Broadway, charities that mainly dealt with social services for people living with HIV/AIDS," Young said. "But what drew me specifically to amfAR is the strong focus on research and finding a cure."

Now in its sixth year, amfAR's Bucks County Cabaret event has raised tens of thousands of dollars to help amfAR and the fight against HIV/AIDS, and the event continues to grow as it attracts donors from around the Northeast. To date, Philadelphia and Bucks County donors have contributed more than $3.4 million to amfAR, and amfAR has invested more than $4 million in grants and fellowships to more than 80 Philadelphia-area researchers.

"amfAR's Philadelphia-area donors, led by our friends in Bucks County, have been integral partners with the Foundation from the start," said amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost. "We're thrilled to be back for another memorable evening in Bucks County as we continue to grow the cabaret event and work more closely with our donors in the area."

Young joins a list of prominent performers who have been featured at the event, including Cheyenne Jackson, Ann Hampton Callaway, and Christine Andreas. Now based in Los Angeles, Young will perform a mixture of popular songs, Broadway standards, and Jersey Boys tunes.

"I remember stopping by the ‘small hotel with the wishing well' from the famous Rodgers and Hart song There's a Small Hotel," Young said, recalling a summer trip to the Bucks County area to see a college friend from Doylestown, Pa., and visiting the fabled Stockton Inn in New Jersey. "We took a long bike ride through the beautiful countryside, and I'm happy to see those hills again."
