Film Historian Max Alvarez Will Join Bergen County Players for THE 39 STEPS Talkback
Director Steve Bell leads a four-actor cast through 150+ characters at Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell
Following its opening weekend, Bergen County Players have announced an addition to its run of The 39 Steps. On Friday, May 15th, BCP will host an exclusive post-show talkback with acclaimed author and film historian Max Alvarez.
The production has already established itself as the breakout hit of the season, with early audiences hailing it as a "comedic masterpiece" and a "must-see tour de force." This fast-paced whodunit-adapted from John Buchan's 1915 novel and Alfred Hitchcock's iconic 1935 film-continues to captivate with its inventive staging. Directed by Steve Bell of Hackensack, the show features a cast of just four actors portraying over 150 characters in a brilliant display of virtuoso performance.
Following the 8 PM performance on May 15th, Max Alvarez will provide unique insights into the cinematic origins and cultural impact of this classic story. Max Alvarez is an author, film historian, and speaker who produces multimedia programs on world cinema culture. A visiting scholar for The Smithsonian Associates and former film curator at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, his career includes partnerships with the American Film Institute, the Library of Congress, and the Museum of the Moving Image. He is the author of The Crime Films of Anthony Mann and a contributor to Thornton Wilder/New Perspectives.
