FUN HOME Comes to Kelsey Theatre

In the sleepy town of Lock Haven, Pa., a family drama is being played out behind the doors of the local funeral home that will have life-changing impacts. Join Pierrot Productions as they present the Tony Award-winning musical "Fun Home" at Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre Fridays, Sept. 21 and 28 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sept. 22 and 29 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Sept. 23 and 30 at 2 p.m.

Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance on Sept. 21.

"Fun Home" is a fresh and brilliantly told journey of self-discovery. The voice of the story is Alison, a successful comic artist who has reached cult status in her adult years. As she looks back on her childhood and her college years, she attempts to unlock mysteries about her unhappy parents, the gothic twists of growing up in the family funeral home, and her recognition of her homosexual identity. Alternating between comedy and aching sadness, Alison's revelations about her dysfunctional childhood help her heal some old wounds and shed new light on the person she has become. (This show is not recommended for children under 13.)

Adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori from Alison Bechdel's 2006 graphic memoir, "Fun Home" first opened at The Public Theater in 2013 and made its way to Broadway in 2015, where it played for 18 months. It received five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Playing Alison at three stages in her life are Dayley Katz of West Windsor as Small Alison; Katy Widmer of Hamilton as Medium Alison, and Alexandra Rush of Philadelphia, Pa., as Adult Alison. Also starring are Alex de Mets of Newtown, Pa., as Christian; Sean Downing of Lumberton as Bruce; Amanda Dranchak of Cinnaminson as Helen; Drew Freeman of Furlong, Pa., as John; Josh Kirwin of Philadelphia, Pa., as Roy and Bobby Jeremy; and Theresa Menna of Newtown, Pa., as Joan.

The production team includes Producer Pete LaBriola, Director Kat Ross Kline, Music Director Peter de Mets, Assistant Director and Stage Manager Jaci D'Ulisse, Sound Designer Evan Paine, Set Designer MJ Santry, Master Builder Jim Petro and Costume Coordinator Ann Cole.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $16 children/students. Tickets may be purchased online at www.kelseytheatre.net or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible, with free parking next to the theater.
