For four decades, Engelbert Humperdinck has been billed as "the King of Romance," and for millions of fans around the world, he has more than lived up to that title. On May 14th, you too can experience Humperdinck at his romantic best as his Legacy of Love Tour comes to the St. George Theatre.
Born Arnold George Dorsey, and struggling to make it in music, Dorsey changed his name to the more arresting Engelbert Humperdinck, borrowed from the operatic composer. The change paid off when Humperdinck's pop version of "Release Me," scored a top ten on both sides of the Atlantic and number one in Britain. Humperdinck was the only artist to keep The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever" from entering the top slot in the UK at the height of Beatlemania. "Release Me" spent 56 weeks in the Top 50 in a single chart run. A sensitive lyric interpreter with a three-and-a-half-octave vocal range, Humperdinck followed up "Release Me" with two more hit ballads, "There Goes My Everything" and "The Last Waltz".

In the late 70's, Humperdinck made his second appearance in the Top Ten with "After the Lovin'," an adult contemporary chart-topper that crossed over to the country charts. Humperdinck topped the adult contemporary charts one last time in the 70's with "This Moment in Time". His last chart single was in the early 80's with "Til You and Your Lover Are Lovers Again". During the course of his career, Humperdinck has earned 59 gold records, 17 platinum albums, and a multitude of awards from Grammy Awards to Golden Globes.
