Cyndi Lauper et al to Participate in bergenPAC Concert Series to Benefit Autism

bergenPAC and WCBS FM have teamed up to present The Fall Series which include superstar performances by The Monkees, Rick Springfield, Cyndi Lauper with special guest Dr. John and The Doobie Brothers. The VIP Packages for each of these shows will benefit Communities of Autism, aiding autistic adults. The concerts will take place at bergenPAC in Englewood, New Jersey 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, New Jersey.

After ten years of playing an important role in supporting the need for early intervention services for children with autism, Cresskill Resident Matt Ross, Founder of the highly successful "The Kids Foundation", has shifted his successful fundraising energies to focus on the growing needs for adults with autism. Ross has started a new organization called "Communities for Autism". "The cost to society is going to be extremely high if we don't provide quality, thoughtful, compassionate care for this growing population", said Ross who is also Chairman of the new organization. "Communities for Autism" believes the best housing solutions should be paired with community, recreation and vocational programs to provide the end-to-end quality of life that autistic adults deserve.

Nationwide, there are over 500,000 children identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder who will enter adulthood over the next ten years. While every child diagnosed on the Autism spectrum in America is guaranteed educational services until the age of 21, those services diminish significantly for those over the age of 21. There is not enough housing, adequate services or funds to ensure that individuals with autism are supported to live safe, independent, and productive lives. Most states have long waiting lists for housing. In New Jersey, the waiting list exceeds 8,000.

The mission of "Communities for Autism" is to identify the best programs and provide development grants to help increase the supply of housing and integrated resources for adults with autism. Chaired by Matt Ross, Richard Katzenstein serves as Vice Chairman and Andria Somers is the organization's Executive Director.

"I have watched the storm clouds brewing and there is a crisis on America's doorstep, said Ross. "I believe that this will be among the most compelling needs over the next 20 years for our country."
