Cape May Stage to Present MISTAKES WERE MADE, 11/5-22

By:

Cape May Stage presents the New Jersey premiere of the riotously entertaining and uproariously funny Mistakes Were Made by Craig Wright, the Emmy-nominated writer of Six Feet Under and the award-winning playwright of Lady Grace and The Pavilion.

Hailed by The New Yorker, as "an exquisite piece of comic writing," Wright's Mistakes Were Made is the hilarious story of a B-list producer attempting to bring a full-scale musical about the French Revolution to Broadway. Bouncing between phone calls as he tries to bring this gargantuan epic to life, he deals with a touchy writer, courting a conceited movie star for the lead and trying to get a hold of his ex-wife - often all at the same time.

Not to mention, his secretary Esther interrupting him with crisis after crisis as his dealings threaten to spiral out of control. And, of course, there's the matter of making sure his beloved fish Denise is well fed and taken care of. A compact cosmic gem of philosophy and funny-business, Mistakes Were Made is "ninety furious... very funny minutes of American hucksterism!" (New York Magazine)

Portraying the wheelin' and dealin' Felix Artifex is Michael Basile last seen at Cape May Stage in The Woolgatherer; other credits include All Dolled Up (Off-Broadway) and The Odd Couple (The Kimmel Center, Philadelphia). Cape May local Mary Ann Caruso joins him as secretary Esther in her Cape May Stage debut. Bringing to life the antics of goldfish Denise is puppeteer Darrin Hickok.

Joining the dynamic cast in portraying the turmoils of show business is a talented production team including Producing Artistic Director Roy Steinberg (Other Desert Cities, Blithe Spirit) as director, Scenic Designer Chelsea Richards, Costume Designer Cheryl Patton Wu, Lighting Designer Cyrus Newitt, Production Stage Manager Penny Bergman, and Rehearsal Stage Manager Casey Oakes.

Mistakes Were Made runs Wednesday, November 5 through Saturday, November 22 at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse located at the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 seniors (62+) and $15 students. A half-price preview performance will take place on Wednesday, November 5; the official opening night will be Thursday, November 6.
