Broadway's Attaway, Brunell, Kritzer And Moye Headline Concert For Alzheimer's Awareness

Broadway stars Major Attaway, Catherine Brunell, Leslie Kritzer and James Moye will form a one-night-only cast for When Broadway Goes Dark, Van Dyk Goes Live, a concert to support Alzheimer's awareness Monday, June 4 at 7pm at Van Dyk Park Place.

The cast will perform a medley of Broadway show tunes for New Jersey seniors and caregivers in honor of Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month. The show aims to create a unique Broadway experience when Broadway is dark.

"We wanted to give our seniors and their caregivers a special night out," said Bob Van Dyk, CEO of Van Dyk Health Care. "It's a challenge for our elderly to catch a Broadway show, so we're bringing Broadway to them. What better way than to do it when Broadway performers have the night off."

Attaway is currently granting wishes on Broadway as the Genie in Aladdin. Brunell starred as Portia in the Broadway hit, Something Rotten!, as well as the title roles in Broadway's Mary Poppins and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Kritzer recently starred as Alice Kramden in the world premiere musical of The Honeymooners, and she previously performed on Broadway's Something Rotten!, Legally Blonde, A Catered Affair and Hairspray. Moye has performed in Broadway's Aladdin, Bullets Over Broadway, Million Dollar Quartet, The Full Monty, and On the Twentieth Century.

The band will be led by Eugene Gwozdz, currently Music Director for American Dance Machine for the 21st Century. Joining him will be percussionist Roger Cohen (Rocktopia) and bassist Jim Donica (The Visit and Allegiance).

The event will be held at Van Dyk Park Place, located at 644 Goffle Road, Hawthorne, NJ. Admission and valet parking are free. Tickets are sold out. General seating begins at 6:15pm. The event includes a reception after the show where guests can take photos with the performers. Inquiries for last-minute cancellations can be made at 973-636-7000. Details are available at vandykhealthcare.com/broadway.

The event sponsor, Van Dyk Family Wines, was co-founded by Bob & Elizabeth Van Dyk to honor the old vines of society and raise money for Alzheimer's and memory care nonprofits. Their inaugural wines, the 2010 Dignity (Cabernet Sauvignon) and the 2011 Respect (Chardonnay), were named in support of their motto of "Celebrating Our Elderly with Dignity and Respect." Bob Van Dyk received the 2017 Jan Thayer Pioneer Award from the National Center for Assisted Living for his leadership in the senior care profession.

Additional supporters of When Broadway Goes Dark, Van Dyk Goes Live include Alzheimer's New Jersey, Valley Hospital's PrimeTime program and Senior Source.

According to the Alzheimer's Association, an estimated 5.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. This number could rise as high as 16 million Americans by 2050. Alzheimer's New Jersey reports that over 500,000 people in the Garden State are impacted by the disease.
