Ben Folds to Join New Jersey Symphony for Greatest Hits Performances
Conductor Edwin Outwater will lead the orchestra at NJPAC in Newark and State Theatre New Jersey.
New Jersey Symphony has announced two performances featuring Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter Ben Folds performing music from across his career alongside the orchestra.
The concerts will take place on Saturday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark and Sunday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m. at State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick. Edwin Outwater will conduct the performances.
The Newark performance will include a free Instrument Discovery Zone at 6:30 p.m. in the NJPAC lobby, where attendees can try a variety of instruments with Symphony musicians before the concert. Following the New Brunswick performance, the Symphony’s Next Gen program will host a happy hour event in the State Theatre NJ Donor Lounge for members ages 21 to 40.
Folds is known for his work as a solo artist and as a member of Ben Folds Five. His career has included collaborations with major symphony orchestras, film and television projects, and arts advocacy initiatives. He previously served as the first Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.
Conductor Edwin Outwater currently serves as Music Director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Principal Guest Conductor and Curator of the BBC Concert Orchestra. His work has included collaborations with artists including Metallica, Wynton Marsalis, Renée Fleming, Yo-Yo Ma, Cynthia Erivo, and Leslie Odom Jr.
