Award-winning Comedy ART to be Staged in an Art Gallery

By:
Pegasus Theatre Project, the professional resident theatre company of the West Windsor Arts Council, will present Yasmina Reza's award-winning comedy 'ART' March 31-April 9 at the West Windsor Arts Center.

'ART' is a timeless comedy about three friends whose friendship is thrown into chaos when one of them buys a modern painting that another considers a joke, while the third is caught in the middle trying to keep the peace. By exploring questions about what is art and what one's taste in art says about the person, the friends come to address bigger issues that have been challenging their relationship. Will they be able to resolve their differences, or have they grown too far apart?

All Pegasus Theatre Project productions are staged in the Performance Gallery at the West Windsor Arts Center. "It's a wonderful opportunity to be able to stage this play in a gallery surrounded by art of varying genres and styles," said 'ART' Director Jennifer Nasta Zefutie. "Although, at its heart, this play is about the relationship between these three men, the discussion throughout regarding how we define art is made all the more powerful by the space."

Several special events are planned to complement the show. Following the opening night performance will be a reception during which audience members can mingle with the cast and production team, share some wine and light hors d'oeuvres, and enjoy the artwork around them. On Saturday, April 1, there will be a Pre-Show Cocktail Party hosted by the West Windsor Arts Council Exhibition Committee when audience members can browse the exhibit in the Performance Gallery while enjoying some wine and light hors d'oeuvres. And following the Saturday, April 8 performance will be a talkback session with the director, cast, and artist Micheal Madigan (www.MichealMadigan.com). Attendance at any of these special events is included with the purchase of a regular ticket.

Three local actors make up the cast: Peter Bisgaier (Princeton Jct.), Matthew Cassidy (Morrisville, PA), and David Nikolas (Hamilton). The creative team includes: Direction by Jennifer Nasta Zefutie (Cranbury); Scenic, Lighting, and Sound Design by Judi Parrish (West Trenton); Stage Management by Tara Gruber Etter (Hamilton); Assistant Direction by Jonathan A. Martin (Hightstown); Fight Choreography by Katie Downey (Bound Brook); and Assistant Stage Management by Lili Timmes (Lawrenceville).

'ART' was written by Yasmina Reza with translation by Christopher Hampton. It will be presented March 31-April 9, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm at the West Windsor Arts Center, 952 Alexander Rd., Princeton Jct., NJ. Tickets are $18-22 and can be purchased online at www.PegasusTheatreNJ.org or by calling 609.759.0045.
