Aaron Turner Photo Exhibit to Open at MCCC's Trenton Gallery Image

Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) James Kerney Campus Gallery announces the opening of "Arkansas Delta," a photo exhibit by AaRon Turner. The show runs from Wednesday, Oct. 4 through Wednesday, Nov. 1. The JKC Gallery (JKCG) is located in MCCC's Trenton Hall, 137 North Broad Street, across the street from the Kerney Building.

The photographer and educator will speak about his work at an Artist Talk and Gallery Reception on Thursday, Oct. 12, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The talk will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Hours for the show will be posted at www.mccc.edu/JKCgallery. The James Kerney Campus Gallery is under the direction of Michael Chovan-Dalton, MCCC Professor of Photography and Digital Imaging.

Raised in the Delta, Turner says his photos offer an insider's perspective, capturing the geography and culture of a region once richly centered around farming, religion, music and food that has experienced population loss and a shifting economy. "This is more than just an exploration of the Arkansas Delta, more than just simple truths. This set of images is about longing and connection to those things I remember as a child," Turner observes.

Turner received an M.A. in Visual Communications from Ohio University and an M.F.A. from Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts. He is the technical director of Rutgers' Film and Electronic Arts Department and serves as an adjunct professor at Bard College in New York. His work has been featured in American Photo magazine, Lenscratch Fine Art Photography Daily and The Oxford American.

Turner is the curator of the social media project "Photogs of Color," an ongoing archive of work made by photographers of color. More about the project can be found on Twitter and Instagram (@photogsofcolor).
