Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre. This two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four, an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance. As the Bard says, “With mirth and laughter, let old wrinkles come!”
The 39 Steps, directed by Blair Hundertmark, will star local favorites Shawn Crapo and Courtney St. Gelais, with Jen and Michael Towle as the Clowns.

New Hampshire Theatre Project's 2022-23 MainStage Season focuses on the season theme: Legacy & Transformation: What Do We Leave Behind?
New Hampshire Theatre Project's Elephant-in-the-Room Series continues with the topic of School Safety in the 21st Century, featuring Poster 528, a compilation of readings on the issue of school safety. Sources include Parkland by Dave Cullen, A Mother's Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold, The School Shooter: A Threat Assessment Perspective by Maryellen O'Toole/Department of Justice, and numerous articles, surveys, poems and personal stories collected by Genevieve Aichele, assisted by Tim Barretto, Kolby Hume and Catherine Stewart. New Hampshire Theatre Project is partnering with the Portsmouth Police Department on this program, and any donations at the door will benefit the PPD.
New Hampshire Theatre Project's Elephant-in-the-Room Series continues with the topic of the Opioid Crisis Effect on Families, featuring a reading of A Wider Circle by Mary-Ellen Hedrick. A playwright and civics teacher from New Hampshire, Mary-Ellen's previous work, Throw Away People (featured at NHTP's 2017 Intelligent Theatre Festival), focused on the devastating consequences of heroin addiction for both individuals and the community.
New Hampshire Theatre Project's provocative Elephant-in-the-Room Series opens its second season with the topic of Eating Disorders & Body Image, featuring a reading of Linda Daugherty's play Eat: It's Not About Food by seacoast actors and teens. The script dramatizes the dangerous and confusing world of eating disorders in women and men, girls and boys, exploring causes, warning signs, and the influences of both society and the media on this too often tragic issue.
